Our Methodology For Success

At The Tutoring Company, our methodology is built on a clear, structured approach to learning that ensures every student builds the skills and confidence needed to succeed. Our entire system—from individual lessons to our curriculum and online resources—is designed around our four-step process and the Rosenshine Principles of Instruction.

The 10 Rosenshine Principles

We use these principles to inform our teaching, resources, and lesson plans, especially when the goal is for students to master key knowledge and skills.

Weekly Reviews

Lessons start with a quick review of past material to help students retain information.

New information is presented in small, easy-to-digest steps, with practice after each one.

Scaffolds

Use temporary supports for difficult tasks, gradually removing them as students become more competent.

Students are provided with extensive independent practice to make skills and knowledge automatic.

Monthly and weekly reviews to reinforce learning over a longer period of time.

Individual Lessons

Every face-to-face lesson at The Tutoring Company is where the core of our methodology is delivered. Our tutors apply the Rosenshine Principles of Instruction to create a dynamic and effective learning experience.

Teach

Tutors introduce new concepts by breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps with clear explanations.

Practise

Students immediately apply their learning through guided practice, with the tutor providing immediate feedback.

Test

Each lesson concludes with a short test under exam conditions to assess understanding and track progress.

Review

Lessons begin with quick reviews of prior learning to reinforce long-term memory & build a strong foundation.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is a roadmap for success, structured around the Teach, Practice, Test, and Review cycle that spans the entire academic year. The curriculum is divided into three distinct phases—Autumn, Spring, and Summer—and each phase systematically guides students through a progression of topics, ensuring learning is cumulative. This comprehensive approach ensures thorough preparation and continuous skill development over time.

Online Portal

To complement our face-to-face tutoring, our online portal provides a wealth of resources that are also heavily linked to the Rosenshine Principles. The portal is an extension of the classroom, offering materials and videos that allow students to revisit topics, practice skills, and reinforce their understanding independently. This blend of in-person instruction and online resources provides a holistic learning experience that caters to different learning styles and supports consistent progress.
